S0006 CITY OF WASHINGTON - New York to Cuba steamship. She was built at Chester, PA in 1877 and operated by the New York and Cuba Mail Line (Ward Line). This view shows her at her wharf on the Brooklyn waterfront. In the background is Governor's Island. Included in the marine activity are two sidewheel ferries, a four stack German liner heading out past the Statue of Liberty and to the right a large excursion steamer, probably the GRAND REPUBLIC.
