S0023 ASCANIA - Passenger liner. She was built at Newcastle, England in 1925 for Cunard Line passenger service. In 1939 she was converted to an armed merchant cruiser and later a troopship. In 1947 she resumed passenger service for another 10 years. She was scrapped in 1957. This March 1955 photo shows her leaving NY with whistle blowing. This image is available in color-$10 or B&W-$7.
